A guide to keeping your brand new Bidbury & Co ceramic sink sparkling.

Jul 3, 2024How To, Information

Our ceramic sinks are a popular choice for customers’ kitchens due to their durability, ease of cleaning and elegant look. However, maintaining that shine requires a regular cleaning routine and knowledge of the right methods. This guide will equip you with everything you need to keep your Bidbury & Co ceramic sink sparkling clean, from everyday maintenance to tackling stubborn stains.

Daily Routine

The key to keeping your sink looking its best is consistent cleaning. Here’s what you’ll need for your daily clean:

  • Warm water: Hot water can be effective for stubborn grime, but warm water is gentler on the ceramic finish.
  • Washing up liquid: A mild washing up liquid will effectively remove everyday grease and food residue.
  • Soft sponge or microfibre cloth: Avoid abrasive scrubbers or scouring pads that can scratch the surface. Microfibre cloths are ideal for both cleaning and drying, as they trap dirt without scratching.

The Cleaning Process

  1. Rinse: Start by rinsing the sink with warm water to loosen any food particles or debris.
  2. Lather: Apply a few drops of washing up liquid to your sponge or cloth and create a good lather.
  3. Clean: Wipe down the entire surface of the sink, paying attention to corners and around the tap bases.
  4. Rinse: Rinse the soap away with clean warm water.
  5. Dry: Use a clean microfibre cloth to dry the sink completely. This will prevent water spots and limescale buildup.

Deep Cleaning: Taking Care of Tough Stains

Even with regular cleaning, some stains might require a little more effort. Here are some effective methods for tackling tougher grime:

  • Baking soda and vinegar: This natural cleaning duo is a powerhouse for removing mineral deposits and light stains. Create a paste with equal parts baking soda and vinegar. Apply it to the stain, leave for 15-20 minutes, then scrub gently with a soft sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • Cream of tartar: For tougher stains, make a paste with cream of tartar(available from larger supermarkets) and water. Apply it to the stain, let it sit for 30 minutes, and scrub with a damp cloth. Rinse and dry.
  • Commercial ceramic cleaners: If natural methods don’t suffice, consider a commercial ceramic sink cleaner. Opt for a product specifically designed for ceramic surfaces and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. We like to have a bottle of Bar Keepers Friend on standby, as it comes in useful for so many tasks around the house.

Important Tips to Remember

  • Avoid harsh chemicals: Bleach, ammonia and other harsh chemicals can damage the ceramic finish. Stick to gentle cleaners and natural solutions whenever possible.
  • Don’t use abrasive scrubbers: Steel wool, scouring pads and abrasive cleaners could scratch the surface.
  • Address spills promptly: The longer a stain sits, the harder it will be to remove. Clean up spills as soon as they happen to prevent them from setting in.
  • Descaling regularly: Hard water areas are prone to limescale buildup. To prevent this, periodically descale your sink with a vinegar solution or a commercial descaler.

By following these simple steps, you can keep your ceramic sink looking beautiful and functioning flawlessly for years to come. With a little regular maintenance and the right cleaning methods, your Bidbury & Co sink will continue to be a gleaming focal point in your kitchen. For all our ceramic sinks view our brochure.
